Common injuries occur when you are training to lose weight. The stress on the knees or ankles can sometimes cause sprains and strains to the joints. Occasionally there is a tear of a ligament. Not knowing what is wrong is scary and frustrating. The first thing to do is to get a good medical examination of your injured area. Once your injury has been determined, ask your health practitioner what exercise would be allowed for your over all health as well as perhaps helping your injury. Think of exercises like yoga. low impact aerobics and possibly swimming to keep you safe and in the exercise mode while healing from your injury.
For those of us who wish to start out slowly consider doing Tia Chi. Tia Chi is a martial art that can be practiced by people of all ages. The art incorporates low impact movements with various stretching and dance like activities that challenge your physical and mental well being. There are many DVDs on the market to choose from or consider a class at the local gym or YMCA. This is the perfect exercise to be performed alone or in a group. Try this activity outdoors and get a little shine at the same time. You will be burning calories, getting fit and getting some much needed Vitamin D.
There are currently a great number of ” 5k” runs that are local to all communities. For those that do not wish to run there is often a one or two mile walk associated with these events. The price is usually minimal and will benefit a charity. So you could get out in the community, get some exercise and support a cause…. all with about an hour of your time. I use the website www.runningintheusa.com. Hope to see you out there.
