Since going to DMN I’ve lost over 50 lbs., I couldn’t be happier (or healthier). Hands down it was the best decision I made – and I absolutely love all the people that work in the office (especially Christine). I had put on a lot of weight due to being on steroids (for an allergy) and I gained 30 lbs. I was unhappy and really needed help, my mom found DMN’s information and gave it to me and said “what do you have to lose” and I could only think of “a good 30 lbs. is what I’d like to lose”. I made my appointment and I couldn’t wait to go – they changed me into a happy, energetic human again – and I couldn’t be happier. This was the best thing I’ve done for myself in a very long time. And I had to buy a whole new wardrobe – which is so much more fun when your buying a size 6 instead of a size 16!
For those of us who wish to start out slowly consider doing Tia Chi. Tia Chi is a martial art that can be practiced by people of all ages. The art incorporates low impact movements with various stretching and dance like activities that challenge your physical and mental well being. There are many DVDs on the market to choose from or consider a class at the local gym or YMCA. This is the perfect exercise to be performed alone or in a group. Try this activity outdoors and get a little shine at the same time. You will be burning calories, getting fit and getting some much needed Vitamin D.
This is one condition you must try to avoid. If you have it, get rid of it. You need to do whatever is required to get rid of it. Make no mistake. This disease is a killer. The type of diabetes I speak of is type two diabetes. This is a condition where blood sugars are running higher then normal when fasting (not eating usually for 8-12 hours) or as a response to eating especially things like sweets, sugars and carbohydrates.
High blood sugars are damaging to the eyes, heart, nervous system and blood vessels. It is a leading cause of heart disease, stroke ,disability, and death. According to Leonard Egede MD 26 million people in the US have diabetes. These people have increased risks for stroke that are 2-4 times higher then those who do not have the disease.
Although diabetes is multifactorial one of the leading causes of diabetes is obesity. Excessive weight, especially weight in the abdominal cavity, places an individual at significant risk of diabetes.
The best defense against diabetes is weight loss. The combination of eating a low carb, low calorie diet as well as increased movement by exercise is a safe and practical away to causes significant improvement in your blood sugars and lower your risk of developing diabetes.
Fiber is a necessary component of any healthy diet. It is encouraged to have on average thirty grams of fiber each day, with the best sources of fiber being fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. Why is fiber so important? Fiber allows for regulation of bowels, increased satiety and feelings of fullness, and also decreases your risk of certain conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and certain cancers. When in doubt look to add more fiber to your diet. Some of my favorite snacks including combining proteins and fiber like celery with peanut butter and sugar snap peas with hummus.
Frequently, not enough attention is paid to what we are drinking. When our body is dehydrated it is not able to work as efficiently. Water and low fat dairy products, skim milk, should be our main choices while trying to limit caffeinated beverages like soda and iced tea. Remember to drink at least eight glasses of water a day for optimal hydration and remember to add for increased activity. Also, pay attention to increased water needs in hot, humid weather as summer is right around the corner.
